Abstract:

Rotation curve shapes for discy galaxies which are obtained from the Doppler measurements give no information on the presence of dark non-baryonic matter in these objects. However, the velocity dispersion of old disc stars together with the photometric data enables one to estimate disc-to-halo mass ratios, which suggests a great deal of non-luminous mass in galaxies and provides a possibility to study the dynamical evolution of stellar discs.
