Abstract:

We consider the cosmic-ray acceleration in the magnetospheres of collapsing stars with initial dipole magnetic fields and various initial energy distributions of charged particles in a magnetosphere (power-series, relativistic Maxwell, and Boltzmann distributions). When a star magnetosphere is compressed under the collapse, its magnetic field grows considerably. This variable magnetic field generates a cyclic electric field. Our calculations show that the electric field can accelerate charged particles to relativistic energy. It may be inferred that collapsing stars can be sources of high-energy cosmic rays both in our and other galaxies. magnetized collapsing star
