We propose a mechanism of comet brightness outbursts which is based on the process of selective absorption of solar ultraviolet radiation by a hydrogen cometary head. This process provides different radiation influence on the parent and daughter molecules in the near-nucleus region of the cometary head. As a result, under certain physical conditions in the cometary coma, a increase in electronic temperature can cause an outburst of cometary brightness.
