Influence of temperature inhomogeneities on the kinetic Alfven waves generation in the Earth's magnetosphere

Abstract: The temperature-drift instability excited by the presence of electron temperature gradient in inhomogeneous plasma is investigated. It is shown that in a plasma layer of the magnetosphere kinetic Alfven waves can be generated. The frequencies of the waves correspond to the frequency band of the Pc 3 pulsations type which are observed in auroral zone. |
